Robb Meinen of Delta Sigma Lambda gives us a tour of their new chapter house

Alumni and Actives meet to prepare for Blue-White Weekend

Our All-Phi Leadership, Building, and Finance Teams met with the actives to complete final preparations for our upcoming Blue-White Weekend.

We kicked-off Saturday morning with a field trip to meet with Robb Meinen of Delta Sigma Lambda for a tour of their new chapter house. Robb reviewed the reasons for all their design decisions and gave us some further guidance on their very successful and innovative fundraising campaign. We all owe Robb and his team a big thanks for all their help. They prove how a determined chapter can accomplish its dream and are another sign of how the whole fraternity system is on the rebound.

Once the meeting concluded, most of the alumni began their journeys home, and the actives did what come naturally on a beautiful 85 degree April Saturday - play volleyball. Alumni Gary Ptak '81, Randy Thompson '83, and Charlie Yohe '97 hung around a while trying to figure out the best way to get back into college - how about grad school? Is there an age limit?

Regis Cleary '68 discusses options for our physical plant at February Summit '05

Team Phi Unites at February Summit '05

Our February Summit was a huge success. In the morning, Senior Leadership Consultant from Headquarters, Tim Gilbert, gave us an update on the state of our chapter compared to other Phi Delt chapters. Then Kevin Kerr, Penn State’s Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life gave a quick update on the university’s renewed commitment to fraternities followed by Sharon’s fantastic lunch. The afternoon was spent discussing options for our physical plant and various methods of financing.

The sale is officially over and our house still stands proud at 240 North Burrowes!

They said it couldn't be done. They said we were out of our league. They said we had no chance. They said we couldn't afford the battle. But in the end, Penn State, despite its vast financial and legal resources, proved to be no match for the highly motivated Phi Legal Team. The judge ruled in our favor and Penn State's right to appeal has expired. The sale is officially over and our house still stands proud at 240 North Burrowes Road!

Chapter Advisor Bill Corbett '88 and Cindy Thompson lead the executives in a week long leadership and management seminar.

We are happy to report some incredible things happened in the seven months since the sale was made public. Rather than leading to our death, the sale has served as our rallying cry, uniting our alumni and actives on a mission to save our fraternity, and return it to its former glory!

While the Phi Legal Team was working to stop the sale, the actives and a group of alumni went to work on the house and the operating plan for the chapter. We have a new alumni corporation board of directors, a new chapter advisor, a new cook, and we are in the process of implementing a major leadership initiative to bring our chapter back to the top and keep it there. Bill Corbett '88 puts the finishing touches on the banner he and Susan made for Arts Festival Weekend.

The invitation said, "This is a beautiful time of year to visit Penn State, see your old school and stop by your fraternity house. A great time to renew old friendships and make new ones. Come join us at the house for a cook-out on our new grill and see how great the house looks".

Many actives and alumni fell for this and returned to the house for a nice relaxing weekend only to wind up remodeling the Kitchen. A great time was had by all. Full Story

The first page of our bond book - one of many reasons why we have to fight and save our house.

Save our house!

On March 10th, 2004, our board of directors sold our fraternity house and property to Penn State. If things had gone as planned, settlement would have been May 28, and our beloved house along with 100 years of memories, tradition, and hard work, would have been demolished in early June. Although our board had good intentions, we believe that their decision was premature and would have resulted in the death of our fraternity at Penn State.

When we learned of the sale, we created and launched this site on May 5th, 2004 to rally support from our brothers - fight and overturn this decision - and save Phi Delta Theta at Penn State. Full Story
